Chubby Bunny + SPANK! (A love story!)

4 Nov

Days at the Chubby Bunny workshop have been getting more and more hectic as we come closer to the big fashion show and pop up store debut at the Sweet Streets opening party on November 19th! [EDIT: Sorry guys, I keep messing up the dates. But it’s the 19th!!)

I’ve neglected to give some background info on this mighty awesome collaboration so I thought I’d say a few words before giving you all a sneak peek at the goods!

If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you know that SPANK! owner Tavuchi and I have been friends for a little while, with her coming to the US pretty often, and me hanging out with her and her friends in Tokyo while I was there a few months ago, and even staying at her totally cute apartment

We had been talking about doing a project together since spring of this year, and wanted to do a collaboration fashion show and pop up store. As the fates would have it, we were able to find a venue for our ideas at the Sweet Streets exhibition! It was a match made in heaven, since Sweet Streets (which I helped to produce and exhibited in last year) focuses on Japanese pop culture and art, and that’s sort of where SPANK! an Chubby Bunny fall in ❤

Working with Tavuchi these past couple of months prepping for the show have been really fun and interesting. It’s been really great to be able to work with such a distinguished brand in the Japanese fashion community, and it totally helps that Tavuchi and I totally think on the same wavelength of wierdness when it comes to a lot of things!

Our fashion show and pop up show are just one aspect of Sweet Streets. Make sure you guys take a good look at all of the amazing art that will be on display at the gallery that night!

The SPANK! x CHUBBY BUNNY POP UP SHOP will feature an array of items from our normal stores, PLUS exclusive items from our respective brands for this event! Chubby Bunny will debuting our APPAREL line at this event as well! But that’s not all! SPANK! and Chubby Bunny will also be releasing extremely limited COLLABORATION products! Photos and details about these products will be hush hush until closer to the event so stay tuned!

Additionally, the SPANK! x CHUBBY BUNNY FASHION SHOW will feature models selected from our nationwide model search, looking for fans of our brands that exuded personality, style, and general awesomeness! The fashion show starts at 8PM, and there is SURE to be a crowd, so we urge fans to come as EARLY as you can to line up!! The show will feature models wearing a mix of SPANK! and Chubby Bunny apparel and accessories, with makeup sponsored by our awesome friends at Sugarpill Cosmetics!

Alright, enough yapping! Check out the sneak peek of products from SPANK! and CHUBBY BUNNY below! (we’ll be doing another sneak peek post in a week so make sure to check back soon!)

Hair History: Fizzy the human My Little Pony

15 Oct

I am totally into gradient EVERYTHING these days. Can you tell?

I finally got around to fixing my hair color yesterday and this is how it turned out! It’s the first time I’ve tried top to bottom gradient by myself, so I’m pretty proud of how it turned out! When I retouch I might make the blue a little darker, though!

After I did it, I was trying so hard to remember what the color combo reminded me of… and then I remembered! A My Little Pony! This isn’t the first time this ahs happened with my hair dying, haha. My MLP expert friend Caro reminded me that these are the main colors for Fizzy!

Does the color combo remind anyone else of anything?

I’m such an 80’s Baby at heart…!

I’ll be really busy these next few months ramping up new stuff for the events I’l be vending/hosting! If you’re in the LA area, you can check some of them out!

SPANK! x CHUBBY BUNNY fashion show model search!

10 Oct

We are excited to announce our first ever Model Search! We are participating in a collaborative fashion show with Japanese brand SPANK! in conjunction with the Sweet Streets Vol.3 exhibition opening. We will be showing off the latest looks from our brands, collaborating in a super fun fashion show and pop up shop with exclusive items!

If you are interested in modeling for us, you can check out the official entry guidelines here!

The fashion show is going to involve a lot of cute dancing, so those with dancing experience are preferred! Good luck!

Japan Day 6: Osaka nostalgia and Eimi’s Art Show!

15 Aug

The next day I was pretty sleepy and groggy, but managed to human-up and get out to lunch with Caro to meet up with Nico and Chikuwaemil! They are both fantastic artists, and such nice people. It was Caro and my first time meeting them in person, though we had worked together before on a few projects for about half a year or so.  They both live in rather far out places of Osaka, and were so nice to come into central Osaka to come and meet us!

We went down to eat at the Dig Me Out Cafe, which was right below our cafe, and also the venue where the art exhibition we were in town for was set up! Eimi was the main artist for this show, but she had just finished hanging that morning and ran off to a meeting so she wasn’t able to join us for lunch.

Left to right: Me, NICO, Chikuwaemil, and Caro

Emi’s exhibition was already hung by the time we got to the cafe for lunch so we looked around and signed her guestbook!

Nico signing the guestbook.

Someone had gotten Emi this really cute panda bouquet!

We walked around Shinsaibashi a bit and looked at some stores before Nico had to leave to get some work done. Chikuwaemil and Caro stayed together and shopped some more, but I took a mini siesta back at the hotel because I wasn’t feeling so hot. When I awoke from my mini-nap, Caro and Chikuwa were in the middle of something, so I just took a quick walk around the Shinsaibashi and Namba area to visit all of my old stomping grounds quickly.

A view from the famous Doutonbori bridge. TONS of signs light up the sky at night. Thank god it was a nice cool and overcast day for once so I didn't die of heat exhaustion. This is the spot where I used to hang out with my current boyfriend and drink beers and eat a hot meat bun while talking about stuff late into the night. Ahhh, romance.

Another view of the signs next to the Dotonbori river.

After that, it was time for Eimi’s Exhibition’s opening party so I scooted back to the hotel and met up with Caro, Chikuwaemil and Emi there 🙂

Info on the show

2 visitors to the gallery. I loved this girl's little pink horns and the eyeballs on her sailor jacket!

My friends that I was hanging out with the night before showed up too, and we all chatted and made new friends throughout the night and talked art. I took a ton more photos, which you can see here!

Around 10:30 or so we were super tuckered out, so Caro and I headed back to our hotel room to sleep forever and ever, and pack up to head back to Tokyo again the next day! (whirlwind trip, no?) We had a fashion show to attend back in Tokyo the following day, so our stay in Osaka was very short (though I came back for epic adventures once that was done).

In the morning Eimi was nice enough to meet us for a quick breakfast before we hopped on the bullet train back.

Eimi was SO CUTE and drew us both pictures! You can see her on the left flipping through one of her books and the adooorable sketch here!

After that we said our goodbyes and got on our train heading back northeast! The art show was really fun and I’m glad we were able to schlep down for one day to see it!

Here’s a quick extra picture of Caro’s apple juice bottle she bought on the train…

The girl says "I'm helping my mom with chores!" in the first box. Then in the second box.. uhh... sheep.

You can see the rest of the photos I didn’t post on my blog here! Be back tomorrow for an EXTREEEME update on the HARAJUKU KAWAII!! fashion show hosted by ASOBISYSTEM and some BEARBRICKS info about their massive display up in the PARCO department store in Shibuya!

‘Till next time!
