Meet “Bunnies & Bows” artist, Bei Badgirl: She’s not all that bad, really!

17 Apr

All of the artists I have chosen have influenced me on a creative, professional, or personal level in some way.  I’ll be introducing some of the artists who have been sending me in their progress shots for the Bunnies & Bows gallery (debut & opening party May 7!) here!

Bei Badgirl

Bei's "Sailor Slut" piece

Bei Badgirl is a modern day Pebbles Flintsone if Pebbles would have a) grown up in Australia b) stuck with her art c) didn’t grow up in the stone age. Okay, so maybe the only thing Bei REALLY has in common with Pebbles is that she has massive stone-age looking hair and often wears little bones in her hair and on her clothes and shoes!

Beis "Red Apple Dessert Pie (Sugar Frosted)" piece she did for the Sanrio 50th Anniversary show.

I first met Bei Barbarian (okay, time to use as many alliterations as I can with her name in one post), when she came to Los Angeles for Sweet Streets in 2010 (her first time to the States!). She has wicked personal style, and to-die-for art! Her art style is highly graphic, and usually features ultra sexy girls, who always remind me of Bei Baby herself! All of her recent pieces have been giant cut outs of her girls, and the little props and friends they interact with.

Bei is a really amazing artist, who is hoping to move to the U.S. soon! Here’s her bio info she provided!

Bei Badgirl is a recent graduate of the University of Sydney and has been exhibiting internationally. Inspired by all that glitters, her ultra-girly work explores the notions of sex and excess, obsession, indulgence, and the concept of falling in love with imaginary things.

Blending her daily routines and sugar-sweet addictions, her work is an overflow of all that is criminally dear to her. She currently lives and works in her underwater

palace in the kingdom of Atlantica and enjoys baking, watching cartoons, and bringing sailors to their doom in her free time.

Below is a preview of Bei’s piece she is working on the for the upcoming “Bunnies & Bows” show! I can’t wait to see how it comes out! My only regret is that she can’t make it out to LA for the debut of her work! BOO! Australia, move closer to the U.S. please.
