Japan Earthquake Awareness Ribbon!

15 Mar

Hey everyone! For the #PrayForJapan Art Fundraiser this Saturday, I decided to create some awareness ribbons to promote awareness about the Japan earthquake & tsunami and encourage philanthropy for the cause.

I’m sure an “official source” will come up with a ribbon for the cause eventually, but at least for this weekend, I would like to introduce to you the ribbon I created!

I layered red and white, as those are the colors of Japan’s national flag. Although I’m not really “official” I’d like to propose that we use this ribbon for the sake of aiding and remembering Japan during these desperate times.

These will be sold at the #PrayForJapan Art Fundraiser for $1 each, and ALL proceeds will go to the Japan Red Cross to aid relief for Japan. I’ll be making 200+ of them at the speed of light!!!

There are so many other organizations and individuals who are hosting charity events for Japan, and I encourage them to also make a ribbon to sell and donate the proceeds to the Red Cross. Real quick, here is what you need to make it– it’s simple!

The ribbon can be found at any craft or fabric store. I got these from Micheal’s craft store. The white ribbon is a white grosgrain, about 3/16″, and is $1.50,and the red ribbon is satin, 1/4″ which is $.50. Measure out a little less than 7 inches and fold over, using a safety pin or hot glue to keep it together!

We are very busy prepping for this last minute event! We hope you can make it, or make it to one of the many other charitable events hosted by innumerable organizations this weekend!

“PrayForJapan” Art Fundraiser! THIS Saturday 11/19/11

14 Mar

I’ve been very quiet this weekend, due to the events in Japan. Having lived there for a number of years, I have been frantic getting information on friends living there in different parts of Japan, and completely devastated by the news coming out of the country. I’ve been functioning in a half-awake state, but am slowly snapping out of it–

If you wish to get up to date info on the status in Japan, I urge you to stay away from “drama-hungry” news, and stick to the basics.

BBC Automatic refreshing of news.  One woman’s horse was found via one update, and identified by one reader as belonging to  a woman interviewed in a different bbc story via these updates…
CNN (live updates and constant video, including some translations of NHK news)
Reuters Automatic Refreshing- good multiple sources here with filtered reader contributions.
NHK Livestream (Translated in English)

In Japan, one of my friend’s coworkers in Tokyo immediately packed up his van with donations and supplies and headed to Sendai, where he is still currently trying to get through the broken roads to people who need supplies. Brave and terrifying… I am beyond words for how I feel after all of this, but certainly it’s nothing compared to those caught in the turmoil of the disaster there.

Locally, I’m so proud of my friends who have all banded together to create the #PrayForJapan Art Fundraiser Exhibition this weekend. I will be participating and donating the service of my event production company, Bubble Punch, and also donating Chubby Bunny bows to be used in a charity raffle at the event.

Below is info for the event, and also information on how YOU can help make this event a positive and great fundraiser to help those in Japan!

I usually try to keep Chubby Bunny & Bubble Punch stuff separate, but it’s impossible not to include everyone and everything in this great event for a great cause:

Opening Reception: Saturday, March 19, 7:00pm – 10:00pm
Location: JapanLA, 7320 1/2 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA

Sephora Hello Kitty Beauty Collection Mascot debut & event report!

6 Mar

What a whirlwind of a week it’s been!

Saturday was the big Hello Kitty tour of 3 Sephora locations here in Los Angeles, and I was so excited to see the debut of the mascot costume I made, as well as see the Sephora staff wearing my pink Hello Kitty X Chubby Bunny bows! (Available for purchase at my site, here!)

Hello Kitty's completed Sephora-inspired mascot costume! I made my skirt really quickly that morning out of scraps from making the mascot costume...! We match!

The Hello Kitty Beauty collection was front and center stage at Sephora this weekend!

The Sephora staff were SO nice ❤ They loved the bows! The manager on the far right is also named Michelle ❤

Glad Sephora hopped on the Lolita train and hired these girls to be Hello Kitty's playmates for her appearances! Hooray! I'm always happy to see my friends being appreciated!

After getting a photo with Hello Kitty, guests were given a complimentary autographed picture of Hello Kitty herself! This little girl was pretty excited...! Don't let the sad face fool you.. she was just starstruck I think.. haha!

It was a really nice experience being able to see my hardwork on display! It felt sort of like the Sanrio Small Gift show 2.0! Thanks to everyone for your kind words and support! It’s been a backbreaking week of work, and it looks like the next few weeks are going to be the same! Can’t complain though… when it rains it pours… awesome projects, that is!!!

I have a ton of pictures in my Flickr Gallery, so make sure to take a peek over there for more pics!
Hello Kitty will also be making it to New York in a few weeks, sporting the same outfit! Hope you guys on the East coast can check it out! Details can be read about here on my friend Maria’s awesome Hello Kitty blog, Hello Kitty Junkies!!

Chubby Bunny announcement: Hello Kitty x Sephora Collaborations and Events!

1 Mar

I’m so pleased to finally announce a bunch of special projects I have been doing with Sanrio for the Sephora Hello Kitty Beauty collaboration! The release of this ultra cute line is being celebrated with special events around Los Angeles!

Here’s the text on that since the photo is so small:

This Saturday, March 5, 2011 in LA –  you are invited to the ultimate Hello Kitty photo op: Hello Kitty herself will be visiting three Sephora stores in L.A. to greet fans and pose for pictures. Come say hello, and get your signature Hello Kitty makeover at the Beauty Studio. While you’re there, take home a small surprise gift— a different one will be available at each store, so stop by all three to collect the set.

Chubby Bunny x Hello Kitty Collaboration bow, now on sale at iamchubbybunny.com!

Chubby Bunny hand crafted Hello Kitty’s pink bow for the Sephora staff around the U.S. to wear to celebrate the release! Thousands were handmade to accommodate each store! This was the huge project I was never really able to talk about last year…! I’m very happy to finally see it to fruition! Take a peek at their cute headbands, and if you like them, make sure to stop by my store to purchase one of your very own!

Additionally, I was honored to be asked to design and create the special Hello Kitty mascot costume for the Sephora events! Hello Kitty will be sporting a Chubby Bunny design inspired by the look and feel of Sephora! I hope you will be able to make it to one of the three Hello Kitty x Sephora events this Saturday, March 5, for a photo op with Hello Kitty in her newest outfit, and to see all the adorable Hello Kitty makeup and merchandise!
