As I like to say, Ren Faire is a festival for those who love dressing up in historic clothing from about the time Jesus was born to… now-ish.
This past Saturday, it was the official “Pirate Day” over at the SoCal Renaissance Pleasure Faire, so my compatriots donned our most fabulous old times-y outfits, and made our way out to the mountains for this epic event. (Please note, from here on out, FAIRE HAS AN “E” ON IT! That’s how we do it old-timesy, folks.)
Check out lots of pics and full report after the jump!
The heat was on full blast at the sunny event, but my friends were real troopers and looked fabulous at the event.
The stands were really cute and interesting, boasting crafters who have been attending this Ren Faire for years. Many artisans travel around the US to attend Ren Faires that are held in pretty much every state in the country, and either perform or sell for the patrons. These die-hard Ren Faire enthusiast enjoy it as a way of life, and not just a side hobby. It’s very admirable, the work they do!
My favorite performance of the Ren Faire is definitely the jousting. Yelling, bad jokes, and violence make an excellent combo while throwing back a cold pear cider and waving your feathered hats around and rooting for your horseman. Here are some quick shots of the revelry, MCed by the “queen” of the Faire.
One of the real draws of Ren Faire is the KICKASS FOOD! Sure, the prices are a bit steep, but damn, the food and “drynk” here will be the death of you!
Overall, a really nice full day! The sun was pretty rough on me in my full pirate regalia though, so if you’re heading out to ren faire anytime soon, please dress in cool layers!
You can see some more of my fave pics from the event below 🙂
